What is the Global Day of Prayer?

The Global Day of Prayer is a call to encounter God with many others so that He can change us and bring forth all that He desires among the nations. It is a direct response to God's promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that if we humble ourselves, pray, seek His face and turn from our wicked way, God will forgive our sin and heal our land.

History of the Global Day of Prayer

At the turn of the 20th Century, South African Christians concerned for the welfare of their nation sensed God calling them to unify and seek Him in repentance and prayer for His favor to be known in their neighborhoods, communities, villages, towns, cities and nation. Soon similar gatherings, all meeting on the same day, multiplied across Africa. In the years that followed the "Call to Repentance and Prayer" circled the world. The result was a Global Day of Prayer on Pentecost Sunday, 2005, and every year thereafter. For more information, please visit Global Day of Prayer International and Global Day of Prayer USA.
